Why Feeling Comfortable in Front of the Camera Has Nothing to Do With Being Photogenic

The best photos rarely happen when you are trying to perform. They happen when you finally feel safe enough to be yourself.

Most people feel awkward in photos because they think they “aren’t photogenic.”

After years photographing women, men, brands, families, and couples throughout Rock Hill, Fort Mill and Charlotte, I have learned this almost always is NOT the real issue at all.

The real issue is pressure and performance.

Pressure to pose correctly.

Pressure to look perfect.

Pressure to know what to do in front of the camera.

When this pressure takes over, people stop being present and they start performing….and this is where things spiral.

The best photos happen when you stop performing

Ready for photos that look and feel natural?

That’s why my approach is different. I’m not looking for perfection. Instead, I’m paying attention to you and your non verbal communication and then I adapt from there.

I use a variety of fun techniques to elicit natural emotions and expressions (the end result looks polished but not stiff). I pay attention to the moments you relax or the way you naturally laugh. The expressions that feel real instead of rehearsed and I find ways to draw more of THAT into our shots….naturally!

The best photographs don’t happen when someone is trying harder.

They happen when someone finally feels comfortable enough to let their guard down and be seen.
